"The DS 1000E series two-channel digital storage oscilloscopes set a new standard for price and performance at the entry level. In terms of performance, the 50- and 100-MHz portable instruments provide a 1 Gsample/s rate, which puts them in the same category as big-name competitors, but then surpasses them by providing a full 1-Msample memory — as much as 40 times more than competing units.
The 2.4-kg, 303 × 154 × 133-mm units sport a full color 5.7-in. TFT liquid-crystal display, USB host and device ports, and the sophisticated range of advanced triggering functions (such as edge, slope, pulse, alternate, and video) and mathematical signal-manipulation capabilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and fast Fourier transforms) that one would expect in a quality scope.
But what really comes as a surprise is the price: the 100-MHz units sell for $795 while the 50-MHz versions are priced at just $595. With prices 35% to 50% lower than comparable DSOs, the instruments, which were introduced last summer in China and Europe and are just now making their way into the U.S. market, are already making waves throughout the instrumentation manufacturing industry." |
